Some guests arrive at the studio with a favorite toy. Fargo arrived with a Halloween wardrobe.
With moonlight overhead and floating candles setting the scene, the cockatoo turned Transylvania into his own fashion show. There were costume changes. There were dramatic poses. There were moments when a simple bow tie and a magnificent set of feathers were quite enough.
I usually photograph dogs, but an afternoon with Fargo is a delightful reminder that personality comes in feathers, too. A tilt of his head, a lift of his crest, or a spread of his wings brought a little magic, some mischief, and a side of drama to every portrait.
His wardrobe covered considerable territory, from a riot of rainbow colors to a unicorn complete with a golden horn and pink tail. Against the dark roses and moonlit backdrop, every costume had its own moment.
Of course, a fashion show needs a little variety. Between the more elaborate outfits, this small brown hat made a rather convincing case for keeping things simple.
And then came the witch’s hat and the cauldron. With his wings spread and crest raised, Fargo looked ready to take charge of whatever was brewing.
I built Transylvania with mystery and magic in mind. Fargo supplied the wardrobe—and his own interpretation of stage presence.
