We wrapped up October with an Addams Family-inspired portrait, miniature horses enjoying the fall gardens, and a husky with a little extra skip in its step. The goats offered questionable winter advice, the hair reached impressive heights, and our last Transylvania visitor helped close out the Halloween season. Here’s the week in pictures as the studio trades moonlit roses for a cozy Swedish holiday cabin.
And just like that, the last Transylvania portrait has been taken. This handsome visitor gave the set a proper send-off, complete with a head tilt.
The studio is already transforming for the holidays. Imagine, if you will, four Floofy Newfies in a cozy Swedish cabin beneath the Scandinavian mountains. We’re trading moonlit roses for a winter retreat. The dog hair will remain.
Before we head north, take a little walk through Transylvania with me. I’ve gathered some of my favorite portraits from a month of magic, mischief, and wonderfully unexpected guests.
Welcome to Fabulous Hair Friday, where the volume is impressive and the styling decisions are entirely your own.
This miniature horse brought enough mane for a shampoo commercial, with an autumn breeze handling the finishing touches. A little lift in front, plenty of movement on the sides, and absolutely no concern about what the back looks like.
I spend good money trying to get this much volume. Apparently, I should be eating hay.
The barnyard’s winter planning committee has convened. After chewing things over, the goats have issued the following recommendations:
Grow a beard.
Stock the pantry.
Stand in the pantry.
Scatter the pantry across the yard.
Complain that there’s nothing to eat.
They also recommend checking that your human has waterproof boots and a reliable alarm clock. Cold mornings, sideways rain, and a desire to finish her coffee are not acceptable reasons for breakfast delays.
The goats consider themselves fully prepared. The human has a few concerns.

Some days you just gotta skip to the beat of your own paws.
A leaf-covered bridge, a little autumn light, and a husky putting an individual spin on “walk toward the camera.”
I love this photograph. The lifted paw, the tipped head, that expression—it’s the sort of moment I couldn’t choreograph if I tried.

Late afternoons in the gardens aren’t just for dogs. Everyone looks dazzling in the fall light.
These two miniature horses joined me for portraits and found time for a little grazing along the way. With their long manes catching the light, even a snack break was worth photographing.
The gardens offer something a little different with every season. Right now, I’m enjoying the autumn colors, softer afternoon light, and the occasional guest who helps mow the lawn.

Meet my daughter Holly, her fiancé Mike, and their dog Goldee. They stopped by Transylvania for a family portrait, and clearly, they understood the assignment.
There were floating candles, a full moon, a single red rose, and a rather helpful hand on the settee. Holly and Mike brought their own interpretation of a certain delightfully peculiar couple.
Goldee settled in beside them and posed as though this were a perfectly ordinary Monday.
Around here, it just might be.
