There’s something about this young and remarkable pup that makes you lean in a little closer. Hondo has quite the rescue story to share, and if you ever have the chance to meet him, be prepared to pull up a warm cup of bone broth and a dog biscuit. He’s the kind of dog who doesn’t just enter a room… he arrives with heart, history, and a whole lot of hope.

He bounced into the studio with the confidence of a red carpet model. His foster mom may have mentioned “bull in a china closet,” but what I saw was delightful puppy energy. The kind that keeps you on your toes and brings perpetual smiles.
Hondo learned quickly. He watched. He adjusted. He posed like he’d done this before. Beneath all that joyful horsepower is a dog who wants to connect, to please, to be part of something bigger than himself.
Hondo is currently available for adoption through PAL in Salem, Oregon, and he’s more than ready for his next big stage.
February is Spay and Neuter Awareness Month, and Hondo is one of the lucky ones. As a PAL-sponsored neuter, his story reflects the quiet, lifesaving impact of programs like Prevent A Litter. Every sponsored surgery creates space for fewer unwanted litters and more second chances.
If you’ve been thinking about updating portraits of your own dog, Paws in the Studio sessions this month help support those very efforts. Creating artwork you’ll love every day can also help another dog like Hondo find his way home. You can learn more about Paws in the Studio here.
Is Hondo up to date on his vaccinations?
Yes. Hondo is current on all of his shots.
Is he neutered?
He is. Hondo is a PAL-sponsored neuter, part of ongoing efforts to support responsible spay and neuter programs in our community.
How does he do with other animals?
He’s never met a dog or cat that wasn’t instantly promoted to BFF status.
What’s his personality like?
Friendly, fast-learning, and eager to please. He brings joyful energy into a room, but he also listens, watches, and wants to get it right. He’s the kind of dog who thrives on connection.
What kind of home would be a great fit?
Hondo would thrive in a home that appreciates both his joyful energy and his eager-to-please heart. He’s the kind of dog who wants to be included, to learn, and to belong. An active family, a playful companion dog, or a home ready to continue guiding his quick mind would suit him beautifully. Most of all, he needs people who will meet his enthusiasm with consistency, kindness, and a little sense of humor.
Hondo is truly something special. Beneath his joyful energy and eager-to-please spirit is a dog with heart, resilience, and so much love to give. The family who welcomes him home will be incredibly lucky to call him their own.
