This weekend reminded me that my favorite moments in the studio don’t always happen when the camera clicks. They happen in the pauses. When two dogs settle in, look up, and decide they’re ready. Nothing rushed. Nothing forced. Just quiet communication and trust building one small moment at a time.
Sometimes the work is as simple as meeting a dog exactly where they are. A pause. A treat. A choice. When dogs are allowed to engage at their own pace, confidence follows naturally, and the portraits that come later feel honest instead of posed.
This is the moment I’m always waiting for. Not when a dog does what I ask, but when they decide to try. When curiosity outweighs uncertainty. Those choices, made quietly and without pressure, are what turn a session into something meaningful.
