Remi and the Cherry Blossoms

Every spring, the cherry trees at the Oregon State Capitol Mall transform the heart of Salem. Pale pink blossoms fill the branches, petals collect along the walkways, and for a few short weeks the grounds become one of the Willamette Valley’s most recognizable signs of spring.

Unlike the working cherry orchards scattered across the Valley, these trees are grown for their flowers rather than their fruit. Their harvest is color, and their season is brief.

Beneath the Blossoms

For a few weeks each spring, the Oregon State Capitol Mall becomes one of Salem's favorite places to welcome the new season. Long rows of flowering cherry trees create a canopy of pale pink blossoms, while petals drift across the lawns and walkways with every passing breeze.

We arrived early enough to have much of it to ourselves. Before families, photographers, and visitors filled the paths, there was only the sound of birds, blossoms floating on the breeze, and Remi happily exploring one of Oregon's most beautiful spring mornings.

A Morning of Discovery

The cherry blossoms may have been the destination, but Remi was far more interested in everything happening around him. Every breeze carried a new scent. Every drifting petal deserved a second look. Every few steps there was something else to discover.

If curiosity has four legs and a wagging tail, it probably looks a lot like Remi.

A Second Chance

Remi's story began on the streets of Bakersfield, California. He and his brother were abandoned as young puppies and were known then as Batman and Robin. Through 4 All Muttkind Rescue, Remi made the journey north to Oregon.

His family agreed to a trial adoption.

A few hours later, everyone already knew the answer.

Today, Remi spends his days on the farm he calls home. He loves meeting people, traveling, camping, and exploring alongside his Labrador big brother. He's even earned second place overall in novice obedience, proof that his enthusiasm is matched by a willingness to learn.

Standing beneath the cherry blossoms, it's impossible not to smile. He carries himself with the quiet confidence of a dog who knows exactly where he belongs.

Every Story Begins Somewhere

Every dog featured in the Colors of the Valley 2027 Calendar has a story.

Many of those stories found a new beginning through 4 All Muttkind Rescue. Because someone opened their home. Someone opened their heart. Someone believed that every dog deserved the chance to belong.

Today, those second chances are exploring orchards, wandering beneath cherry blossoms, discovering fields of flowers, and experiencing the beauty of the Willamette Valley, one season at a time.

That's the story we're celebrating.

Next in the Valley → Meet the next 4 All Muttkind alumni as Colors of the Valley continues through another season, another place, and another unforgettable dog.
