A unicorn visited Transylvania, Fargo took center stage, and two big brothers welcomed a new puppy—with a little help from the cauldron. We also spent some time with two senior huskies on an autumn bridge and caught an elegant dog taking care of an itch. Here’s this week’s collection of daily photographs from the studio and beyond.
Floating candles, roses, and a full moon. Transylvania was already holding its own in the magic department. Then a miniature horse arrived wearing a golden horn.
With that magnificent mane and a perfectly serious expression, our visiting unicorn looked entirely at home. Apparently, this is what the set had been waiting for.
I usually suggest bringing treats to a portrait session. I may need to add “enchanted woodland creature” to the preparation guide.

You put your foot bone to your brain bone and you shake it all about. You do the hokey… hang on. Is this a dance or an anatomy lesson?
Either way, this is a very enthusiastic demonstration.
Some days I photograph elegant dogs in beautiful light. Some days those elegant dogs need to scratch an itch. I like to document the full range.

These big brothers have a new baby brother, and with that comes responsibility.
Their mission, should they choose to accept it:
Cook him for their next meal.
Teach him all the best good-boy tricks.
Pose for their first family portrait together.
Fortunately, we agreed on option three. Although putting the puppy in a cauldron may have sent mixed messages.
Two seasoned good boys and one brand-new recruit. Let the brotherly instruction begin.

The candles are floating, the cauldron is bubbling, and there’s still time for your familiar to make a little mischief. Just four portrait sessions remain in Transylvania.
Our Halloween studio set brings a little mystery, a little magic, and plenty of room for personality. Whether your dog looks born to cast spells or your cat considers the entire production beneath them, we’ll see what magic unfolds.
These sessions also do some good beyond the dungeon. $100 from every session, plus 10% of artwork purchases, benefits Operation D.O.G. to help dogs in need.
Your $175 session includes:
Portraits of up to two pets in our NE Salem studio
A reveal appointment to choose your favorites
One double-sided acrylic keychain
Two matching digital files
Costumes are welcome. So is showing up in your own magnificent fur.
Four sessions. One bubbling cauldron. Who’s coming?
Visit our Transylvania booking page to choose your session.

Life is about the journey, not the destination. It’s also about stopping in the middle of the path until everyone agrees to go your way.
These two senior huskies took a moment on the bridge during their family reunion. One was ready to continue. The other had settled in for negotiations.

Fargo arrived in Transylvania wearing his finest feathers and a red bow tie, ready for his moment in the spotlight.
With his wings outstretched and the full moon behind him, he looked every bit the leading man. The neighbors have requested an intermission. Fargo has declined.
A little magic, some mischief, and a generous side of drama—just what we’ve come to expect from our feathered performer.
