Dora Among the Autumn Leaves

Dora in the Autumn Garden

In memory of Dora

By autumn, my Salem garden settles into shades of amber, gold, and russet. Fallen maple leaves gather beneath the old trees, turning familiar paths into a warm, quiet backdrop for one very special dog.

Dora came from the Salem hoarding case, extremely shy with people but completely at ease among other dogs. She spent five months as a foster before her silly, sweet nature made one thing clear: she was already home.

Dora passed away on Valentine’s Day 2026. This is her story—remembered in the garden, surrounded by the colors of autumn.

Autumn in the Garden

Dora’s Colors of the Valley portrait session took place in my Salem garden, beneath old trees and the last warm light of autumn. Gold and copper leaves covered the ground, while pockets of green lingered around the garden’s edges.

It was a quiet setting for a dog who had learned to move through the world carefully. Surrounded by familiar autumn colors, Dora’s gentle nature—and the joyful smile her family knew so well—came forward.

Dora’s Story

Dora arrived in foster care after being rescued from the Salem hoarding case. She was extremely shy with people, but other dogs made sense to her. With them, she could relax, feel safe, and begin to show the dog behind the fear.

Over the next five months, Dora’s silly, sweet personality emerged. Her loving disposition made the decision feel inevitable: she wasn’t leaving. She was already home.

Dora especially loved trips to the beach, where she could chase birds and explore the shoreline. She built a life filled with family, other dogs, small adventures, and the freedom to be herself.

Every Story Begins Somewhere

Every dog featured in the Colors of the Valley 2027 Calendar has a story.

Many of those stories found a new beginning through 4 All MuttKind Rescue. Because someone opened their home. Someone opened their heart. Someone believed every dog deserved the chance to belong.

Dora arrived as a frightened foster dog and stayed as a deeply loved member of her family. She passed away on Valentine’s Day 2026, but the sweet, silly dog she became—and the life she found—will always be remembered.

That’s the story we’re celebrating.

Next in the Valley → Meet the next 4 All Muttkind alum as Colors of the Valley continues through another season, another place, and another unforgettable dog.
